Music

I saw Explosions in the Sky for the second time a few days ago at the Congress Theater.  It was great.  I haven’t been to a good concert since the summer.  They’ve improved their performance over last year and the Congress is certainly a much better venue than the Metro.  A few things about the performance irked me however.  I’ve a hard time getting over the fact that they simply will not do encores.  Of course we have all been socially conditioned to expect the encore at the end of a performance and I can respect the band if they do not want to take part in that.  It was a short concert though, and the encore helps prepare you emotionally for the end of the show.  They ended with The Only Moment We Were Alone – arguably one of their best pieces – which leaves you hanging at the end, and failed to play my favorite piece, Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean.  And of course at any post-rock concert you have the problem of all the white people not knowing how to move.

As great as these guys are, their shows really cannot compare to Sigur Ros, who are rumored to be putting out a new album (and hopefully also a new tour) this summer.  And of course Radiohead will be coming around soon.

A friend’s band is putting out a cd soon.  You can access their music here.  It’s actually pretty good.
